The agreements signed in 1648 by the Govenor Robert de Lonvilliers de Poincy have enabled Saint-Martin to enjoy a free market status and to function as a community of nations and unified people. Very rapidly the culture of sugar cane flourished and accounted for up to 22 sugar cane farms.
At the beginning of the XXI st century sugar cane industry on the island came to an endwith the closing of the Spring sugar factory in Marigot. Since then Saint-Martin has been divided between the tourist industry and salt farms and produced no more rum.
Master Assembler Olivier had the desire and determination to rekindle the spirit of Saint-Martin rum in the pure tradition of the original Caribbean rums.

Cellar Master Olivier has visited the distilleries of many Caribbean islands looking for top quality rums in order to make an exceptional blend.
Mostly aged in toasted American oak Bourbon barrels or French toasted Bordeaux barrels, these cask brut rums offer a large aromatic palette that enables our Cellar Master to create “Made to Measure” rums.The marriage of these distillates, their refining and assembling, give Gouverneur 1648 a unique balance of subtle aromas.
